Student-run interest groups including the 'Rocketeers' Space Science Club, the Maker Club, the Car Restoration Club and Years 5 and 6 robotics run regularly. Designed by staff, the STEM elective uniquely engages students in coding, computing and engineering. A year later, we launched the Stage 5 STEM Elective, a two-year course for Years 9 and 10. In 2015, Wenona became the first girls’ school in NSW to offer Engineering Studies as a HSC subject on campus. STEM stands for Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics. Wenona is committed to engaging students in STEM studies in interesting and motivating ways.įor the past two years, with support from the Association of Independent Schools NSW, Wenona has collaborated with Deakin University on a research project that aims to increase girls’ interest and performance in STEM related subjects. Already, 75 per cent of the fastest growing industries require STEM knowledge, while innovation and creative problem solving are recognised as key to tackling impending environmental, industrial and medical challenges.
